2022年3月16日22時36分（北京時間），日本本州東部海域（37.70°N,141.59°E）發生7.3級地震，震源深度為61.0千米。
日本本州東部海域7.3級地震震源位於太平洋板塊和北美板塊俯沖邊界附近，太平洋板塊以70毫米/年的速度向西俯沖至北美板塊之下，板塊間的俯沖運動造成該地區地震活動頻繁。本次震中位於2011年3月11日日本9.1級地震西南方向約95公裏處。W震相震源機製反演結果表明，此次地震為一次典型的逆沖型地震。結合區域地質構造環境初步判斷，太平洋板塊俯沖至北美板塊之下的板塊運動是此次地震的發生原因。

A powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake shook Japan』s northeastern coast on Wednesday night, rattling areas devastated by the 2011 quake and plunging more than 2mn households in Tokyo and the surrounding prefectures into a power blackout.
